Limelight is a catering company that works toward producing environmentally friendly events, we’d like to educate and guide customers on how to make an event more environmentally responsible. In addition to green cuisine and event practices at Limelight and off site, we’d like to share some other ideas to lead you in a green direction. You’re guests will see the green details and realize your commitment extends to all the areas of your life.
Venue
Choose a venue whose rental fee will provide a service to the community: Cultural Institutions, Art Galleries, Museums, Historic Homes and Nature and Botanical Gardens
Choose a site with a lot of natural light to reduce the use of energy consumption.
If the event requires different locations, choose a venue that is close so guests can walk as opposed to driving to 2 locations.
Find a venue that is LEED certified or ensure that the venue supports green initiatives such as: recycling, energy efficiency, natural cleaning products and water conservation.
Transportation & Energy
Organize a shared ride or shuttle service for guests.
Use bio-diesel generators for outdoor events (indoor tent heating)
Hybrid Limos & shuttle buses for transportation.
For guests traveling for an event, we recommend LEED certified and local hotels that have green initiatives in place
Decor /Entertainment
Minimize the use multiple flatware & glassware to cut down on the water and power used for cleaning them.
We already do: encourage bio-plastic or cornstarch for all events.
Create seating cards with paper free alternatives
Utilize potted plants for replanting or in season local flowers
Re-use décor or research where décor is coming from to ensure sustainability
Support local artists and musicians.
Invitations
Delete the invitation altogether, send an evite and host a webpage with all of the event details.
If a traditional invitation must be used, Use only 100% post consumer recycled paper with no chlorine and print on the front and back.
Miscellaneous Items
Stick to digital photography and register for a photo sharing website so guest can view photos and minimize photo printing.
In lieu of gifts, ask that a donation be made to a charity.
